I don't really like Superbirds, or Daytonas.

Yeah there cool because of the NASCAR homologation special angle, but honestly I think they are ugly and just plan look stupid.

I dislike cars with large overhangs. This is also why I don't like a lot of American cars, "second" gen Mustangs, and fourth gen F bodies especially the Pontiac), for example.

just look at this Mustang there is at least 12"s of front that is doing nothing

IMO this is just...ugh I'd rather drive a Juke. at least in a Juke I wouldn't look like I think I'm hot shit.

and man am I glad this never saw production. the overall length of this car is like 1/3 overhang.

this opinion is wrong in my opinion.

However I will agree the prices of superbirds are stupid high. Yeah, they're pretty cool. But they are not 400,000 usd cool. You can get something 90 percent as cool for 5 percent the price.

The SuperBirds and second generation Mustangs are great. The Dodge Daytona Charger was my favorite hotwheel car growing up.

However, I completely agree with you about the F bodies.

I seem to recall an article on jalopnik or oppo a couple months back discussing how many BMW, Mercedes and other luxury vehicles hang most of the engine in front of the front tires because it adds stability/comfort at speed. So I hope your ire isn't limited to American cars with that look. :)

I don't actually like SuperBirds either. They just look weird and not in a way that is endearing to me. I do like the WS6 Ram-Air Firebirds and the shape of those old Mustangs, though.

I'm also glad that second-gen Fiero concept never went to production. Compared to the one we did get in the '80s, it's absolutely hideous.

No, you're right. Superbirds and Daytonas are maybe the most overrated of all the muscle cars...which is saying something because muscle cars are overrated in general. To me, the noses and wings look like exactly what they are: tacked on extras that only served one purpose, albeit an admirable one. In street use, I'd imagine there isn't anything they do better than a similarly equipped conventional Roadrunner or Charger.

That said, I'll defend the 4th gen F-bodies to the death. Yeah, the latest Trans Am looked a bit silly, but they're a terrific performance bargain. I know you were only talking looks, but I had a 95 T/A and 94 Z28, and they always looked plenty good to me.

That car is one of the main reasons I grew up not liking American cars.

I remember seeing one when I was 11 or 12, and thinking "God that's tacky" then later that day I saw an FB RX-7 TruboII convertible and drooled all the way home.

I can't stand Daytonas, but I absolutely love the Superbirds. The imperceptible differences in the nose cone, rear wing, and fender contours really pull it together for me, especially with the vinyl roof to complement the profile.

I think your mistake which left us room to be wise-asses regarding what is just a matter of personal taste is mentioning the overhang and "doing nothing." It's sort of like a junkie in need of a fix to find cars that fit that criteria which you probably do like the look of. And that would be pretty much every rear and mid-engined car as the Arch Duke pointed out.
